Mar 31, 2020

Each year, in conjunction with the celebrations of the International Day for Autism Spectrum Disorder, which the world recognizes in April 2, Sharjah Autism Center organizes throughout the entire month of April 2020 its campaign to raise awareness of issues of persons with autism spectrum disorder under the theme (Full participation).
Due to the exceptional circumstances, which the world is witnessing because of the Coronavirus, campaign activities this year will be limited to messages posted on social media and electronic websites.
Dr. Siham Al-Humaimat, Director of the Sharjah Autism Center, has confirmed that the main goal of the campaign is to educate community members about the issues of people with autism spectrum disorder and the importance of their inclusion and proclaiming their full rights.
As for the message conveyed by the theme of the campaign, she said, “The campaign theme this year emanates from the theme adopted by the United Nations, which is (Transition to adulthood).  It draws attention to important issues related to transition to adulthood, the right to self-determination, independence and autonomy, as well as the right to education and employment on an equal basis with others”.
The director of the Sharjah Autism Center - which provides services to 75 students - explained that people with autism spectrum disorder have the right to be fully involved in social and economic life. Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services has been a leader in raising awareness of this issue. It provides specialized services for people with autism spectrum disorder and their families on the hands of the best-experienced staff and in accordance with best international practices.
Dr. Siham spoke about the exceptional circumstance that the entire world is experiencing due to the coronavirus, and as a result, the activities of the center's campaign were limited to electronic awareness through social media and electronic platforms.
Sharjah Autism Center, which includes 39 professionals, continues to provide services to people with autism spectrum disorder, despite the current circumstances through distance education. Center’s specialists communicate via the hotline with parents to answer any inquiry, and provide students and their families via electronic platforms with training videos during this period.
