Jan 19, 2020

Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) has the mission of developing the skills and capabilities of its specialists and teachers within the different sections and branches in order to advance the quality of services offered to persons with disabilities according to the best international practices.  SCHS has been always working to consolidate the relationships of cooperation with local, regional, and international bodies and organizations.

On Sunday, January 19, 2020, SCHS concluded the training course “Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis”.  More than 21 teachers and specialists working with people with autism spectrum disorder benefited from the course held in Sharjah Autism Center.

Ms. Christine Derserxian, a Behavioral Analyst, who obtained a degree in Applied Behavior from the International Applied Behavior Analysis Council, delivered the two days course.

She said, “The course is very important for people working with people with autism spectrum disorder. Applied behavior analysis is an effective evidence-based treatment”.  She confirmed the importance of measuring behavior and monitoring data to control precedents and dependencies for this behavior.

As explained by Christine, the analysis contributes to providing persons with autism spectrum disorder a range of life skills, such as language and social skills, communication skills, self-help, play etc.

Derserxian spoke about an important strategy behind the analysis, which is working with people with autism in the natural environment, such as home, school and playground.  It aims to provide them with skills in this environment and help them to use it in their daily life activities.

The lecturer praised the active participation of teachers during the course and their positive interaction with the new information, wishing them success in their work with students with autism spectrum disorder.

Specialists participating in the course confirmed the importance of the information they received. They emphasized Sharjah Autism Center commitment, in line with SCHS’s permanent strategy, to develop employee skills and support them with global programs, which contribute to the development of new services in addition to the current ones.

Finally, Mrs. Mona Abdul Karim Al-Yafei, Director of SCHS, honored participating specialists. She also honored Christine Derserxian for her fruitful cooperation.
