The Therapeutic Center of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) has presumed providing its daily services to all members of society after the end of remote work period. The city is taking all precautionary measures adopted by the state with additional measures, which the Safe Return Committee in the city has adopted to preserve the safety of beneficiaries and employees.

Established in 2013, the center has been working to provide the best advisory, rehabilitation, educational, psychological and therapeutic services for beneficiaries. In addition, it has been improving their quality of life by providing a set of advisory and rehabilitation services that enhance their capabilities and skills. The center has been empowering persons with disabilities, developmental delays, at risk of disability, or non-disabled. The center has been doing this according to the latest international programs and practices under the supervision of skilled specialists.

The working hours in the center during the period from (12 July 2020 to 20 August 2020) will be from (12 PM) until (4 PM).  After that, it would return to regular timing from (3 PM) until (7 PM). On Saturdays, it will be from (9 AM) until (2 PM) in the building of the Early Intervention Center in SCHS premises at (Al-Yarmouk - Sharjah).

The protection and prevention measures in the individual training rooms include dedicating enough time to sterilize the tools used after each session according to the best practices. The center must sterilize each child before entering the room by washing his hands with soap and water for 20 seconds and sterilizing his hands well.

Among the procedures followed is that the number of children in one room must not exceed two while maintaining the safe distance (2 meters). Other procedures are ensuring the healthy atmosphere of the treatment room by sterilizing it after each session, opening windows so that fresh air and sunlight enters, and wearing protective masks and gloves.  Supervisors should dispose them after each session.

The therapeutic center provides a distinctive set of services, the most important of which are consultation, evaluation and diagnostic services. It includes psychological, pedagogical, speech, and language assessment in addition to curative and rehabilitative services such as skills development sessions and physical and occupational therapy sessions.

Mr. Rami Magdi, Director of the Center, has confirmed the diversity of services offered by the best specialists in the field, such as speech and language - physical and occupational therapy - special education specialists - and psychologists.

He said, “Approximately 500 people benefit from the services of the center annually. 40% of them have access to psychological, educational, and assessment services.  The demand for this particular service is very large due to the approval of the educational psychological report issued by the therapeutic center in most government agencies in the country, especially the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Affairs”.

“Almost 60% of the beneficiaries receive training and rehabilitation services in the areas of speech and language, physical and occupational therapy and skills development.  The center receives great praise from beneficiaries and their families because of the tangible improvement in beneficiaries' abilities and its reflection on the quality of their lives,” added Mr. Rami.

The center has succeeded in recent months, thanks to the Acceleration Plan, to accommodate the largest number of beneficiaries and respond to requests to join the services of the center as soon as possible. The center communicates with students within a week from the date of registration in order to provide the service to them as soon as possible.

The center is constantly seeking to develop its services by ensuring that beneficiaries provide their evaluation periodically on the quality of the services.  The center analyzes evaluation results and strive to find quick and effective solutions to any challenges facing beneficiaries.  They are active partners in adopting the center's policies and decisions.
