Establishment

It was established in 2014, as the first center of its kind in the United Arab Emirates that works to mobilize furry people by providing the latest and best assistive experiences in the world.

AT adopts several curricula and assessment tools

  • The center follows a beneficiary-focused service methodology and uses the evaluation tool from the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative (WATI).

  • Providing specialized consultations on assistive technology services.
  • Coordinating with specialized entities to exchange expertise and provide the latest technologies.
  • Raising awareness and educating people with disabilities, their families, professionals in the field of assistive technology, and the rest of society.
  • Training staff and qualifying specialists in assistive technology services.
  • Providing technical support, follow-up programs, and rehabilitation for assistive technology users.
  • Providing facilities to support financial funding for assistive technologies.

Achievements

Most important achievements and awards

  • Establishing the Assistive Technology Center in SCHS, the first of its kind in the country, and activating the services provided.
  • Providing a certified assessment tool for the Assistive Technology Center, where the "ASNAT" assessment from the WATI foundation has been adopted and is being translated into Arabic.
  • Activating international cooperation between the Assistive Technology Center and the Quality of Life Center at Seoul National University in Korea.
  • Launching the Assistive Technology Center at GITEX 2014.
  • Participating in local and international exhibitions in the fields of technology and assistive technologies such as GITEX, Sharjah International Book Fair, SITE ME Exhibition, and BETT Exhibition.
  • Launching the ATEDUCOM competition for assistive applications.
  • Training students with various disabilities in programming and robotics in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
  • Providing an educational technology program for students with disabilities in the city in collaboration with companies supplying Apple technology.

Admission to SCHS

Registration and Admission at Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services Procedures for registering new students:

  • First:
    • Attend in person to register at the Social Service Department, in the administration building during official working hours.
    • Register using a valid original ID.
    • Provide a recent medical report from an accredited entity / Provide a psychological educational report (if available).
    • The center is determined based on age group and type of disability.
  • Second:
    • The school or center's social worker will contact to schedule a personal interview.
    • Communicate with the family and inform them of the beneficiary's file acceptance if conditions are met.
    • The social worker completes registration data, including filling out the social case study.
    • The social worker receives the required documents and health reports as mandatory attachments for the admission process.
