AL AMAL CAMP 29 TO BEGIN SOON

Nov 25, 2018

Under the theme (Let us Talk about Disability), Al Amal Camp 29 that is organized by Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, would begin in Dec 16, 2018.   Delegations from GCC countries and two guest delegations from Turkey and Kingdom of Bhutan will take part.

Her Highness Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of SCHS & Head of Camp Supreme Organizing Committee, has chaired a number of meetings to prepare for Al Amal Camp 29, which has become international due to hosting volunteers and participants from around the world.  In previous years, volunteers and participants were only from GCC countries or Arab countries.

In the beginning, Al Amal Camp hosted delegations from the GCC countries.  Then, SCHS invited some Arab countries to send their delegations to participate.  In 2007, SCHS invited delegation from Norway and Spain to take part in Al Amal Camp 17.  This made the event an international.  This year, SCHS continued its efforts to make the event international by hosting delegations from Turkey and Kingdom of Bhutan.

This year’s event represents an invitation to talk about persons with disabilities, show their issues, challenges, interests, ambitions, their goals in life, and everything related to their present and future.  Since its inception four decades ago, SCHS has been using every opportunity, occasion, activity, or event to raise people’s awareness of persons with disabilities true talents as well as fighting misconceptions, exaggerations, or superstitions that may overestimate or underestimate their capabilities.

On the other hand, SCHS has been always careful to preserve the dignity of persons with disabilities and their parents by using respectful disability language, which show their humane side as special persons within the social texture.

In Al Amal Camp 29, SCHS is going to stress raising people's awareness of disability by talking about it with small and big families who have members with disabilities as well as talking about it with families who do not have members with disabilities.  Those families who have no members with disability among them are going to meet many persons with disabilities young and old during their lifetime.

Al Amal Camp represents a great opportunity for volunteers who want to work with persons with disabilities and gain experience in this field, as SCHS has been organizing this event since 1986.  The total number of volunteers who took part in this event over the years has reached 3000.

Therefore, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services directs its sincerest thanks to all volunteers, sponsors, and supporters for their time and efforts.  Special thanks went to event's sponsors, SCHS partners, public and private institutions and mass media.
