EARLY INTERVENTION CENTER ORGANIZES (JOY) INITIATIVE FOR MOTHERS OF PEOPLE WITH SEVERE AND MULTIPLE DISABILITIES

The Center for Early Intervention, which is an affiliate of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), organized (Joy) initiative for the third consecutive year. It aims at reducing mothers of children with severe, multiple, and visual disabilities’ stress by having fun and spending time that is full with positive energy.

Ms. Zakia Hassan, Family Counseling Teacher at the Center, revealed the symbolic significance of each letter of the initiative's title in Arabic.  The first letter symbolizes the uniqueness of those mothers.  The second letter symbolizes their comfort. The third letter symbolizes love.  The fourth letter symbolizes a call for optimism. 

She said, “The Center's management and staff are aware of the social and health pressure resulting from having children with severe and multiple disabilities.  Thus, the idea of the initiative came in the context of seeking to support these mothers.  The Center does not only organize one initiative during the year, but in some years it organizes up to four or five initiatives”.

For her part, Mayada Nabil, a Speech Therapist, talked about the importance of focusing on positive energy and amusing mothers.  Therefore, the center hired Dubai Drums to perform for mothers and create more pleasant atmosphere.

Mayada talked about the harmony between the general objectives of the Center and the strategic goals of SCHS, which is a leading institution in advocating, including, and empowering persons with disabilities In collaboration with local and international partners to reduce the causes of disability through early intervention and community awareness.

The mothers of persons with severe and multiple disabilities who attended the event, who reached 12 guardians, directed their sincerest thanks to initiative organizers with their best wishes of luck.
