Jameela Al Qasimi: “We highly value this strategic partnership between Dubai Islamic Bank and the SCHS”

May 12, 2025

Her Excellency Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) Chairperson Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi thanked Dubai Islamic Bank for its yearly support and its dedication to religious and societal commitment to the SCHS students and the educational services it offers in compliance with global best practices.

The announcement was made in conjunction with Dubai Islamic Bank's approval of six million dirhams as Zakat from the bank's 2024 funds. This contribution will be used to cover the tuition costs for students with disabilities at Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, who are eligible for Zakat funds based on Sharia-compliant transactions. This is within the parameters of the two parties' agreement on cooperative collaboration and the pledge to distribute Dubai Islamic Bank's Zakat monies in line with the bank's authorized Sharia-compliant regulations.

The primary goal of this year's Zakat campaign, which SCHS organized during the holy month of Ramadan under the slogan "Your Zakat for Our Education," was to raise 11,796,764 dirhams to pay for the tuition of 492 disabled students who qualify for Zakat funds in line with Sharia law and the Zakat Funds Disbursement Committee's projected budget for 2024–2025.

Sheikha Jameela said, “Since 2011, the partnership between SCHS and the bank has been expanding steadily”. She reaffirmed SCHS's dedication to enhancing collaboration with regional, Arab, and global organizations and entities in order to deliver the best possible services, stay up to date with the most recent advancements, and enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.

She underlined that SCHS and Dubai Islamic Bank's strategic relationship offers the community a commendable example that supports the education of those with disabilities. She further underlined that the bank's ongoing aid and support is unmistakable proof of its dedication to its social and religious obligations.

According to her, 80% of SCHS's disabled students are either entirely or partially exempt from paying tuition because their families cannot afford it. As a result, SCHS uses zakat money to cover these costs. Since its founding, it has taken up the cause of those with disabilities and their rights, working to increase public awareness of these concerns.

She further clarified SCHS's pledge to use a council of seasoned industry experts to distribute zakat payments to reliable sources. This committee accurately assesses who is eligible for zakat funds by looking into the financial circumstances of the student's family.

Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi concluded by applauding Dubai Islamic Bank's continued collaboration with SCHS and appreciating the yearly assistance it offers to educate individuals with impairments in compliance with global best practices. God willing, she hoped that this productive collaboration would lead to even more advancement and success.
