SCHS COOPERATION WITH SHARJAH SPORTS COUNCIL AND SHARJAH POLICE HEADS TOWARDS
On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Mrs. Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), received His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, and Lieutenant Colonel Jaber Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Office of the General Commander of Sharjah Police, Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi. The meeting took place at Al Wafa School Building for Capacity Development (Ramla Branch) after taking all security and safety measures.
The visit comes within the (20) session of Sanabel Al Mahabba Festival organized by the school. The event aims at achieving the principle of community partnership through the contribution of community members in supporting the education and empowerment of persons with intellectual disabilities as well as providing modern means and techniques in accordance with the best international practices in the field of special education.
The proceeds of Sanabel Al-Mahaba, which the school has been organizing since 1998, will be in favor of developing school's programs for people with disabilities. In addition, it invites community members to learn about the services provided to people with disabilities and contribute to its support and provision through material and in-kind donations.
The visit also aims to allow guests to learn about the services provided by the school to its students, which continued as other services of the departments and branches of the City during the Corona period remotely. Then, the school later adopted the hybrid education system in line with the directives of the Ministries of Health and Education.
During a tour of the school's classrooms, His Excellency Issa Al-Hazami and Lieutenant-Colonel Jaber Al-Nuaimi joined students with disabilities some sporting, artistic activities and handicrafts. They listened to a detailed explanation about school's services in its branches (Yarmouk and Ramleh). The school provides its services to 270 persons with intellectual, multiple and severe disabilities and some cases of autism spectrum disorder from the ages of 5 to 16 years, in addition to the services provided to other groups.
The school’s role was not limited to providing educational and rehabilitative services only, but it also worked to provide all curative, health and legal services to students. It also worked on developing the adaptive and societal skills of students with intellectual disabilities through the principle of self-advocacy. The school provided family awareness services through Fathers, Mothers and Brothers Councils, in addition to community awareness. The school works to build awareness of human rights and mental disability through community activities such as the Mental Disability Week and educational campaigns.
His Excellency Issa Hilal Al-Hazami has praised the great support, which Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services offers to people with disabilities of various ages and nationalities. He has confirmed that the cooperation with the City is for the benefit of everyone. He said, “The Sharjah Sports Council is always ready to develop relations with the city and provide support, whether through sports equipment or the programs, activities and events, which the council organizes”.
In turn, Lieutenant Colonel Jaber Saeed Al Nuaimi emphasized the leadership of the city and the importance of the services it provides to people with disabilities. He pointed out the fruitful cooperation between SCHS and Sharjah Police, which goes back for many years and is continuing for the benefit of everyone in the society.
Al-Nuaimi also clarified the permanent readiness of the Sharjah Police General Command for more cooperation with the City. It would make possible efforts to provide the best services for people with disabilities in every area of life.
For her part, Ms. Mona Abdel Karim Al-Yafei, Director of the City, has confirmed the right of persons with disabilities to Equality, Education, Inclusion, and Advocacy, as well as Empowerment and other services that the city provides. The city believes in its duty towards persons with disabilities.
Finally, she has confirmed that the city would continue consolidating the relationships of cooperation with local, regional, and international bodies and institutes. She praised the cooperation with the Sharjah Sports Council and the General Command of Sharjah Police in the past, present and future.
