Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) participated for the fourth year in Sharjah Government Platform JITEX Technology Week 2018 under the theme (Future Urbanism) in order to show the services of Assistive Technology, which SCHS offers to persons with disabilities, which promotes greater independence and empowerment.

Mr. Mohammed Salah, a Specialist at SCHS Assistive Technology Center, has confirmed the importance of taking part in JITEX Technology Week 2018 in order to learn about the latest technologies and introduce the services, which SCHS provides to persons with disabilities to institutions and companies.

He said, “This year, SCHS booth is displaying a Path-Guided Audio Based Indoor Navigation System, which is a smart phone app that helps persons with visual impairment to know the details of any building.  Al Nattiq Company designed this system, which is connected to a network of sensors in the buildings to determine the location of the living room or bedroom etc.”

“As soon as the person who is visually impaired arrives at the building, the app sends an audio message describing the place in detail and giving directions”, added Mr. Mohammed.

Mr. Mohammed has confirmed that a Path-Guided Audio Based Indoor Navigation System is one of the main projects displayed within Sharjah Government Platform.  SCHS booth also includes an electronic daily schedule app for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

He confirmed the importance of participating in JITEX Technology Week 2018 in order to share experiences and incorporate the latest technologies in serving persons with disabilities due to SCHS leadership in this field.

In March 2014, SCHS established a special Center for Assistive Technology in order to emphasize persons with disabilities rights to a convenient educational environment and enable SCHS to cope with the latest technology developments and stay tuned with Assistive Technology field.
