SCHS RECEIVES A DELEGATION FROM THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF SHARJAH CITY EXPLORING PROSPECTS FOR JOINT COOPERATION
A delegation from the Sharjah City Municipal Council, led by His Excellency Salem bin Ali Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Council, visited Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The purpose of the visit was to improve institutional communication, learn about the most notable programs, services, and activities that SCHS offers to individuals with disabilities, and discuss ways to collaborate in a way that advances the objectives of comprehensive community development.
Her Excellency Ms. Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director General of SCHS, and several other officials and department heads welcomed the delegation and gave an overview of SCHS's more than 40 years of experience serving individuals with disabilities, as well as the educational, rehabilitation, training, therapeutic, and community services it offers in compliance with the most recent professional standards.
During the meeting, the delegation members were briefed on SCHS’s vision, mission, and strategic goals, and the role it plays in empowering people with disabilities, defending their rights, and promoting their full integration into society, as well as the quality programs and initiatives it implements in various educational, rehabilitation, social, and cultural fields.
Strengthening Cooperation Between Institutions
The meeting also addressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between institutions in line with the Emirate of Sharjah’s directions aimed at building a more inclusive and sustainable society, and providing supportive environments that enable people with disabilities to exercise their rights and participate effectively in various aspects of life.
The delegation visited the classrooms of Al Wafaa School for Capacity Development, where they were briefed on the educational and training programs available to students, the contemporary teaching and training techniques used, and the efforts made to develop students' skills and potential in accordance with individual plans that take into account their various needs and abilities.
The tour also included the Sharjah Autism Center, where members of the delegation listened to an explanation about the specialized services that the center provides to people with autism spectrum disorder, and the programs aimed at supporting their academic, social and behavioral growth, and enabling them to achieve their maximum potential in specialized educational and rehabilitation environments.
During the visit, the Sharjah City Municipal Council delegation also viewed the products of "Takween," an initiative of SCHS that focuses on empowering students and showcasing their productive skills. The delegation expressed their admiration for the displayed products and purchased several items to support the initiative and encourage its participants, emphasizing the importance of supporting empowerment projects and enhancing their role in integrating students into society and developing their capabilities.
Community Participation Of People With Disabilities
During the visit, views were exchanged on a number of issues related to promoting the community participation of people with disabilities, and the importance of providing environments, facilities and services that take into account the principles of accessibility and Universal Design, in order to promote their integration and active participation in public life.
His Excellency Ali Salem Salem Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah City Municipal Council, said that his visit today to SCHS, accompanied by a delegation from the Council, comes as an extension of the Council’s interest in learning about leading institutions in humanitarian and educational work in the Emirate of Sharjah.
His Excellency mentioned that he visited SCHS for the first time in the early 1980s as a member of an official Arab delegation. At the time, the delegation was impressed by the high-quality and humanitarian programs that SCHS offered, as well as the cutting-edge and innovative services it offered in the area of empowering and caring for individuals with disabilities.
He continued by saying that ten years later, he met a member of that delegation who expressed his admiration for SCHS. He explained that he had benefited from its ideas and that some of its practices had been implemented in his country, which was a great reason to be proud of SCHS's impact outside of the country.
Comprehensive Development In Educational Programs
His Excellency confirmed that he is visiting SCHS once more today after more than 40 years, and he expressed his admiration for the advanced levels that SCHS has attained in providing its services as well as the comprehensive development in educational programs within classrooms that the delegation witnessed.
He praised the unlimited support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who played a fundamental role in enabling this humanitarian institution and its continued performance of its mission.
He also extended his thanks to Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SCHS, Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director General of SCHS, and to all its employees, in appreciation of their sincere efforts and continuous contributions.
His Excellency concluded his statement by emphasizing the Sharjah City Municipal Council’s keenness to enhance cooperation with SCHS and support its programs and initiatives, calling on community institutions and individuals to visit it, learn about its services, and support its humanitarian mission. He stressed that this edifice represents a source of pride for the Emirate of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates.
Broader Prospects For Cooperation And Exchange Of Experiences
Her Excellency Ms. Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director General of SCHS, affirmed that the visit of the Municipal Council of Sharjah City delegation reflects the growing awareness of the importance of collaboration among various institutions to serve the community.
She stated, "We are happy to welcome the Municipal Council of Sharjah City delegation to SCHS. These visits are a significant chance to showcase the work and knowledge that SCHS has amassed over many years in the area of empowering and assisting individuals with disabilities. Additionally, they create more opportunities for collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and experiences, which will improve prospects for full community involvement and have a good effect on the quality of services offered.”
She added, “We in SCHS believe that achieving sustainable development is a shared responsibility that requires integrated roles among various institutions and bodies, and that building inclusive and accessible environments for people with disabilities begins with effective partnerships that place people at the heart of their priorities. From this perspective, we look forward to strengthening cooperation with the Municipal Council of Sharjah City in areas that contribute to establishing the principles of accessibility, inclusion, and active community participation.”
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation members conveyed their gratitude for SCHS's efforts and the specialized services and programs it offers that help empower individuals with disabilities and improve their presence and participation in society. They emphasized the significance of ongoing collaboration and coordination between the two parties in order to accomplish shared objectives and serve the public interest.
