Feb 13, 2020

xx February 2020, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates – Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), represented by its Center for Development and Empowerment, received international accreditation from Pearson, the leading global educational institution, to teach Pearson’s programs. Pearson’s internationally renowned programs seamlessly merge educational content with assessment to enable a wide range of effective learning experiences. This achievement puts Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services in the forefront as the first institution focusing on the education of people with disabilities to receive this accreditation in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Her Highness Sheikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of SCHS, stressed the importance of this achievement in furthering the academic and professional services extended to people with disabilities in line with the best international practices. “We continue to foster and establish collaborative channels with local, regional, and international institutions to raise the level of our offerings and to continue to include people with disabilities, support and empower them and include them in society. We are grateful to His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Federal Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for his continuous support of SCHS and for championing the cause of persons with disabilities.”

Her Highness Sheikha Jameela highlighted the importance of the new accreditation in developing the capabilities of students with disabilities, and provide them with the necessary academic, occupational, and life skills, as well as equipping them with internationally accredited certification from the UK.

“This level of excellence achieved by SCHS is not limited to a specific field,” continued Sheikha Jameela. “Throughout four decades of unwavering work and dedication, SCHS has earned its leading place. This achievement asserts the positive direction and impact of SCHS’s methodology and strategy. Today, we invite everyone to engage in supporting SCHS through social responsibility.”

In her capacity as Director General of SCHC, Sheikha Jameela thanked Pearson International for their valued collaboration, and extended her appreciation to SCHS team, stressing the importance of their efforts and dedication as the foundation for success and excellence.

On her part, Dr. Hanadi Obeid Al Suwaidi, Director of Sharjah Center for Learning Difficulties, Deputy Director of the Center for Development and Empowerment, highlighted three Pearson accredited programs to be taught at the center to students with determination. The three BTEC programs are: Art and Design, Personal Development, and Sports.

The center will teach the programs to first level students at the start of the new 2020-2021 academic year. SCHS, moreover, is keen on pursuing more accreditation to teach additional programs to higher levels.

Delegates from Pearson visited the Center for Development and Empowerment last August and offered a workshop to train instructors and teachers in the best ways to teach BTEC programs.

As SCHS sets its sight on achieving more outstanding results in the near future, Dr. Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of this international accreditation as a qualitative move and a significant step in the center’s efforts to develop its teaching methods and improve the ways students learn in a clear strategic methodology from the start of their enrollment until their graduation in one of two paths: academic and occupational.
