A SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION FOR SCHS IN SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR

Nov 11, 2019

Hundreds of visitors stopped at Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) booth in 38th Sharjah International Book Fair.  This was evident from the sales of (Speech, Language, and Hearing) and motor therapy series as well as the good impressions of visitors who benefited from SCHS informative activities.

Fatima Al-Hinai, Coordinator of SCHS Booth, has confirmed that SCHS contribution to the book fair was not limited to the two series, which consisted of 20 informative cards each about the growth of children.  SCHS booth gave visitors the opportunity of going through a special experience by speaking sign language to communicate with SCHS specialists and students with hearing impairment.  Visitors were able to learn a few words in sign language.

She mentioned that SCHS Assistive Technology Center displayed some assistive technology tools, which promotes greater independency for persons with disabilities in the field of communication.

She said, “Sharjah Audiology Unit had a significant contribution to SCHS booth by offering visitors a free medical examination for their hearing.  In addition, SCHS Branch in Khorfakhan city took part in the fair, throughout Danat bakery in which SCHS students with disabilities make high quality food products with great professionalism”.

Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services participation in Sharjah International Book Fair included a questionnaire about the impact of using electronic devices on communication of children from families’ perspective.  SCHS is going to publish the result of this research in a form of a unique study that is going to enrich libraries in the region.

Ms. Fatima talked about the main goals for SCHS participation in the fair such as raising members of society’s awareness of persons with disabilities issues as well as the main methods of dealing properly with them.

To conclude, Fatima Al-Hinai has pointed out SCHS great care to spread knowledge and culture among society members.  SCHS has been publishing books and materials about disability since its inception.  Furthermore, SCHS has been organizing Sharjah Used Book Fair since 2006 in order to encourage reading and make books available to readers at reasonable prices as well as enhancing the spirit of volunteerism among society members and its institutes.
