A FRUITFUL COOPERATION BETWEEN SHARJAH CENTER FOR AUTISM AND SHARJAH ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUM

As part of Sharjah Center for Autism, which is an affiliate of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), continued efforts to consolidate the relationships of cooperation with Sharjah Archaeology Museum, both centers launched a mining project at the beginning of October 2018.  The project, which is going to last for the academic year 2018 – 2019, aims to integrate students with autism spectrum disorders and develop their sensual and social skills.  

Mr. Mahmoud Mohammed Abdel Maqsoud, a Psychologist in Sharjah Center for Autism, has confirmed that the mining project indicates SCHS constant care to advance the services offered to persons with autism spectrum disorders according to the best practices worldwide.

He said, “One of the main goals for this project is organizing external activities for students with autism.  They will have a chance to visit new places and have fun, which corresponds to SCHS strong believe in the importance of recreation for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities throughout visits and sharing experiences with local, regional, and international bodies”.

He mentioned the 15 years of leadership and experience of the center, which started offering services in 2002 on the hands of the best specialists.  The center has a priority of promoting greater independence to students with autism spectrum disorders, which will lead to the improvement of life quality in every aspect.

“The center offers services to 69 students with autism spectrum disorders.  Parents has great faith in the center. Therefore, they are registering their children in the center, which is working hard to offer services to the largest number of students possible”, added Abdel Maqsoud.

He pointed out that both centers conducted several meetings in order to prepare for the project.  Students paid two visits to the museum.  They learned about its identity and items by watching a documentary film.  They also participated in carrying out the project according to the appointed schedule and plan.  They also took part in games that aim to develop their senses by searching in the sand for sculptures that resembles relics.
