ZAKAT HAS A LASTING IMPACT ON EMPOWERING STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

Feb 11, 2026

Her Excellency Ms. Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), has confirmed that SCHS is focusing its campaign for zakat Your zakat makes an impact. on the Permanent Fatwa Committee's decision that the Emirate of Sharjah allows the collecting, acceptance, and distribution of zakat to people with disabilities.

A Specialized Committee to Ensure Transparency and Credibility

According to her, SCHS is eager to use Zakat in the appropriate ways to help students with disabilities and to allow them to finish their education since it considers it a valid trust.

Based on the legitimate elements, the specialized committee, which was constituted under the direction of Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Head of SCHS, decides who is eligible to spend the money raised from the Zakat campaign.

She added, “SCHS's commitment to governance and openness in the management of zakat funds is embodied in the "Your Zakat Makes an Impact" campaign. With full integrity and openness, the committee carries out the duty of allocating zakat monies received by SCHS in accordance with their specified uses as outlined by Islamic law. The committee is also accountable for all of the money that is distributed. ”

Social Solidarity

She clarified that the campaign upholds SCHS's dedication to allocating Zakat funds to qualified disabled students in compliance with Sharia law, guaranteeing their right to an education and helping to lessen the financial strain on their families, in keeping with the social solidarity principle and maximizing the long-term humanitarian benefits of Zakat.

Goal: To Raise 12,360,066 AED

According to the general manager of SCHS, the campaign's objective this year is to raise 12 million, 360 thousand, and 66 AED in order to cover the tuition costs for 509 disabled students who qualify for Zakat funds in line with Sharia law and the estimated budget of the Zakat Funds Disbursement Committee for 2025–2026 AD.

She said, “80% of SCHS’s students with disabilities are fully or partially exempt from tuition fees because their families cannot afford it, and therefore SCHS works to pay these fees through Zakat funds.”

Zakat, or Charity, is a Right for those With Disabilities.

The fatwa issued by the Permanent Committee for Fatwas in the Emirate of Sharjah stated: The SCHS specialist committee considers the social and economic situations of families of people with disabilities and determines precisely who is "needy" based on their inability to meet basic needs, pay for tuition, or make ends meet due to the high cost of treatment or education.

We Make A Real Difference
