A DELEGATION FROM THE PALESTINIAN MINISTRY OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT VISITS SCHS

On Monday, December 5, 2022, Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), received a delegation from the Ministry of Social Development in the State of Palestine. The delegation included Mr. Bassam Saad Sail, Advisor to the Minister of Social Development for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities "Deaf", and Mr. Arafat Abu Ras, Director of Public Relations. Ms. Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director of SCHS, Ms. Afaf Al Haredi, Director of Al Amal School for the Deaf, and a number of SCHS employees were present in the reception.

This visit aims to see the services and programs provided by SCHS to its students in accordance with international best practices. The delegation wanted to benefit from the experience of Al-Amal School for the Deaf in caring, rehabilitating and educating persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. After that, the delegation is going to transfer this experience and knowledge to the State of Palestine. The two parties discussed ways of cooperation in the field of persons with disabilities.

Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela Al Qasimi praised the well-established relations between the Emirati and Palestinian peoples. Then, she gave a full explanation of the services, programs and activities provided by SCHS for people with disabilities in line with the government's directions and policies towards this segment of society. It depend on the principle of including, advocating, empowering and integrating them into society.

She pointed out that SCHS, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, always seeks to build partnerships with local, regional and international institutions, civil society institutions, the private sector and universities. By doing so, SCHS aims of continuing to provide and develop services in line with the latest practices.

For his part, Mr. Bassam Saad Sail conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the Minister of Social Development, Dr. Ahmed Majdalani. He praised the role played by SCHS in caring and empowering people with disabilities. He expressed his pride in these achievements.

He said, “The Ministry of Social Development, through its assignment by the Palestinian government as the leader of the social protection sector, always seeks through its strategy to support and empower people with disabilities, adopt an approach based on justice, rights, equal opportunities, access to social assistance to beneficiaries with integrity and transparency, and move from disability to development”.

In his turn, the Director of Public Relations, Mr. Arafat Abu Ras, stressed the need to develop the relationship between the Ministry and SCHS. The Palestinian Ministry must benefit from the expertise, services, programs and activities that SCHS provides to its students and transfer it to private centers and institutions in Palestine.

After that, the delegation visited Al-Amal School for the Deaf to receive briefing on the most prominent services, programs and curricula provided to the students of the school and its affiliated kindergarten. Delegation members met the school principal, Ms. Afaf Al-Haridi, who provided them with a full explanation about all educational programs and activities for beneficiaries of all age groups.
