THE OMANI DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION VISITS SCHS TO EXPLORING WAYS

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) received a delegation from the Omani Down Syndrome Society within the framework of developing and enhancing cooperation with institutions, centers, and stakeholders at the local, regional, and international levels. The delegation was headed by Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Jabri, Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors. It included Mr. Masoud Mohammed Al Hinai, Deputy President, and Mr. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Jabri, Secretary, and Mr. Mohammed Suleiman Al-Bartmani, Treasurer. They were received by His Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al-Yafei, Director General of SCHS, and Mr. Saeed Butti Hadid, Public Relations Officer.

The general director of SCHS gave the visiting delegation an overview of the most significant services, programs, and activities offered to students with disabilities in the various departments and branches of SCHS in compliance with best international practices during a tour that included the Early Intervention Center and Al-Wafa School for Capacity Development. SCHS operates under the direct, ongoing supervision and leadership of SCHS President Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi.

During the visit, there was also a conversation about how to improve the two sides' cooperation, take use of SCHS's leadership and extensive expertise, and plan future visitation exchanges by attending events, conferences, and lectures.

This time, on March 6 and 7, 2024, SCHS will organize an international scientific conference titled "Theory and Practice in Adapted Physical Education," in collaboration with California State University - Chico and the Sharjah Education Academy. Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei extended an invitation to the association's delegation to attend and participate. The conference aims at raising awareness of sports and physical activities that are specifically designed for those with disabilities, particularly those who suffer from severe and multiple disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and intellectual disabilities.

Mr. Ahmed Muhammad Al-Jabri, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the warm reception. He stressed the importance of the visit in consolidating cooperation between the two sides in the future.

At the conclusion of the visit, shields and souvenirs were exchanged.
