SCHS CONTRIBUTION TO SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL

Nov 6, 2023

The public response to the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) pavilion at the 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair, "We Speak Books," has been remarkably positive. The second version of "Motor Therapy for Children," the most recent edition in the series, is offered by SCHS as part of the 60 Seconds series. In addition to other items, SCHS started publishing this series in 2018 within its exhibition pavilion.

The previous iterations of the 60-second series are all accessible inside the pavilion, with reductions of up to 50%, according to Ms. Nouf Al Ali, Supervisor of SCHS's pavilion at the show and Head of the PT and OT Center. The series' first issue addressed motor therapy. The third version was a pamphlet titled "Communication in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: In My Way, I Communicate," whereas the second edition focused on language and speech. OT was the topic of the fourth edition.

Al Ali reaffirmed that the primary objective of this series is to educate and increase community knowledge in line with the finest worldwide norms. She emphasized that experts from the SCHS will be on hand during the show in the pavilion designated as "Hall 4, H25" to respond to queries from the public regarding the new edition or past SCHS editions within the parameters of the series 60 seconds. Free consultations, as well as certain testing for flat feet and other examinations, will be offered by SCHS.

With tests and activities that parents can simply implement with their kid at home, the new series covers the phases of child motor therapy. According to Ms. Nouf, the “Test" booklet "Your Child" is also available at SCHS pavilion and contains tests that the parent can use to ensure that the child is developing properly. Parents, teachers, and specialists can benefit from this series and apply the skills it includes with their children or students.

"SCHS's participation in the Sharjah International Book Fair is sustainable because it recognizes its role as a pioneering institution," she continued. In order to develop the services it offers to people with disabilities in compliance with worldwide best practices, SCHS consistently highlights the significance of raising awareness of the issues pertaining to persons with disabilities and forming relationships with both individuals and community institutions.

SCHS was established in 1979 with the goal of promoting culture and awareness. In keeping with its goal to disseminate scientific culture and increase knowledge of disability, its risks, and the need to lessen its consequences, it was eager to print and promote publications and books that were specialized in the topic of disability.

SCHS has regularly organized the Used Book Festival since 2006; this event, now in its eighth year and slated to take place in February 2023, is known as the "Al-Warraqeen Used Book Festival." This is arguably one of the most notable examples of SCHS's interest in books, encouraging community members to read, and raising awareness. The objectives of Souq Al-Warraqeen are to raise the book's significance and value, make it easier for people to obtain it at reasonable costs, encourage volunteers among society's members and its institutions, and generate income in a creative way that supports ongoing efforts to improve the reality of services for people with disabilities and raise awareness of their human rights issues. The "Al-Warraqeen Used Book Market," which SCHS has been hosting on the first Saturday of each month since 2020, is regarded as an addition to and continuation of the event.
