SCHS INTEGRATES CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES INTO SHARJAH SECOND CARNIVAL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

On Thursday morning, November 21, 2019, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) participated in the second edition of the Sharjah Carnival for Children and Youth, which Sharjah Baby Friendly Office (SBFO) is organizing at Al Majaz Amphitheatre until Friday evening, November 22.  SCHS aims at integrating persons with disabilities with their non-disabled peers in order to show their real talents and capabilities in every area of life.

Dr. Samia Mohammed Saleh, Director of Al Wafa School for Capacity Development, which is an affiliate of SCHS, has confirmed SCHS great care to consolidating the relationships of cooperation with various local, regional, and international bodies and organizations according to the best international practices.

She said, “SCHS’s participation in the carnival consisted of a series of special workshops presented by children with disabilities under the supervision of their teachers.  They interacted with their non-disabled peers in workshops such as sign language, handicrafts, painting, and coloring.

She added, “SCHS students presented in addition to previously mentioned workshops, other workshops such as robotics, music, and pottery for non-disabled children to participate”.

Dr. Samia has pointed out SCHS great care to the rights of persons with disabilities in general.  She pointed out that children with disabilities have the right to participate in activities such as carnivals for children like their non-disabled peers.

To conclude, Dr. Samia has confirmed that Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, established in 1979, offered services to 2339 students with disabilities in the academic year 2018-2019 on the hands of 605 employees, 50 of whom are with disabilities. They worked in SCHS to provide services to students with different disabilities.  She also pointed out that SCHS only hires the best specialists, trainers, and teachers.  They do their best in order to advocate, include, and empower persons with disabilities in every area of life.
