Dec 27, 2023

As part of their fruitful cooperation, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), Sharjah Education Academy, and California State University – Chico have signed a scientific partnership memorandum within the framework of organizing the International Scientific Conference “Theory and Practice in Adapted Physical Education (APE) 2024”, which SCHS organizes in partnership with the academy and the university on March 6 and 7, 2024. This event represents efforts of scientific, societal, and leading global and local practices in the field of APE. It is an important field that calls for more serious and sober scientific research from specialized researchers.

This collaboration falls under the umbrella of motivating sports leagues, as well as public and private entities, to sponsor sports programs for individuals with disabilities and to give them the resources they need to succeed in the sporting world. The conference will also help to achieve justice and equality in the realm of sports and physical activity, as well as to alter society's overall perception of individuals with disabilities.

The memorandum was signed by Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director General of SCHS, Her Excellency Dr. Jeanine Romano, Executive Director of Sharjah Education Academy, and Her Excellency Professor Sarah Romano, Assistant Vice President for Procurement, Property and Distribution Services at California State University - Chico.

Raising awareness of the most recent advancements and cutting-edge techniques in the field of APE for people with disabilities (intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, severe and multiple disabilities) is the goal of the conference, which is attended by several of the most significant experts, researchers, and workers in the field. The conference also attempts to advance the services and programs by showcasing them, offering fresh insights, and sharing noteworthy APE experiences.

APE specializes in meeting the distinct needs of students with disabilities individually, who cannot benefit from general physical education lessons or need additional services for APE.

APE has numerous other advantages for students with impairments, including fostering mental and physical growth as well as enhancing conduct, well-being, and health. It helps kids acquire new abilities, satisfies their sensory needs, and makes participation more enjoyable for them.

Since its founding in 1979, SCHS has worked to empower, advocate for, and involve those with disabilities in their communities by providing them with education, employment opportunities, and rehabilitation. Additionally, the organization aims to lower the prevalence of disability through early intervention and raising community awareness. To enable people with disabilities to live in dignity and independence and to realize the principle of equal opportunities, SCHS strives to provide a distinguished level of humanitarian services. It also takes on the issues of people with disabilities, removing any moral or environmental barriers that may be preventing them from reaching their full potential and enhancing their quality of life.

In addition to creating educational experts by providing a variety of cutting-edge, research-based professional and academic programs, the Sharjah Education Academy also aims to promote a continuous improvement culture throughout all educational establishments. Finally, the academy strives to lead, innovate, and facilitate educational excellence in a diverse educational community.

One of the state's oldest universities, California State University-Chico, is a pioneer in the teaching of applied science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and provides students with high-quality programs that empower them.
