International tennis player Anwar Al Kammouni has confirmed that the services that Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) provides to its students with disabilities are excellent. He thinks that the efforts made by SCHS specialists demonstrate the amount of care and attention given by SCHS senior management under the leadership and guidance of Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of the SCHS. He directed his sincere thanks and appreciation to her.

The hero Anwar, who overcame bone marrow failure and returned to compete in international tournaments after a seven-year treatment journey, expressed his happiness with what he saw during the tour that included the Early Intervention Center, Al-Wafa School for Capacity Development, Al-Amal School for the Deaf, and the Art for All Center "Falaj". Because of the ideal environment that SCHS provides for them to grow and develop, he expressed his deep admiration for the energies, abilities, and talents possessed by persons with disabilities.

The Egyptian tennis player, and the first athlete in the world to return to the world tennis rankings after a bone marrow transplant, praised the global level of SCHS’s services and its keeping pace with best practices. SCHS attaches great importance to all areas that can contribute to including, advocating empowering people with disabilities, and integrating them into society according to world’s best practices.

Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director General of SCHS, and Mr. Muhammad Bakr, Supervisor of the Art Center for All "Falaj," were with him during the tour this morning, Wednesday, October 4, 2023. The hero Anwar shared with the students at SCHS some of their various educational and training activities, both academic and artistic.

The interaction with children with impairments in their classrooms and throughout the events planned by the specialists at SCHS, he claimed, is unquestionably unique and unforgettable. He continued by saying that the experience he had inspired him to take part in the film "Seven Centuries BC," which is centered on his extended 7-year treatment journey and subsequent comeback to tennis, for this experience to serve as inspiration and a role model for those who need it.

Al-Kamuni said about the procedure he underwent: Transplanting new marrow was a challenging but necessary procedure for life to go on. Prior to the marrow transplant, the immune system also needed to be suppressed, and for the transplant to be successful, the recipient needed to stay still and unmoving for an extended period of time.

The athlete talked about the "Global Hope Givers" program, which he launched with the intention of inspiring optimism, preventing patients from giving up or surrendering to their illnesses, and believing that any patient can overcome challenges provided he has faith in his potential to succeed. The UAE is one of the 23 countries currently taking part in this effort through SCHS. He stressed that the UAE is a source of pride for the Arabs.

Al-Kamouni also expressed his readiness to cooperate with SCHS in its upcoming activity, “Childhood Thon 5,” which is organized by its Early Intervention Center on Flag Island on January 11, 2024, as part of the Early Intervention Week activities, with the participation of approximately 2,500 Sharjah school students.

The visit came with the aim of reviewing the services and programs that the SCHS provides to people with disabilities. Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei spoke about SCHS’s vision and mission, its work mechanism, its role in supporting, including, and advocating for people with disabilities, and the main goals that define SCHS’s framework in keeping pace with international best practices.
