46 Paintings for Artists with Disabilities Awaits Visitors In (Without Walls) Art Gallery

On Sunday, December 20, 2020, the activities of the art gallery (Without Walls), which The Art for All Center (Falaj) of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services is organizing until the 24 Dec in (Gallery 2) within the buildings of the Sharjah Art Foundation in the Sharjah Heritage Area, opened.  Artists with disabilities, who are members in the center, has more than 46 paintings displayed at the art gallery.

A remarkable turnout of a number of artists, media professionals and interested parties attended the opening ceremony. Mr. Muhammad Bakr, Supervisor of (Falaj), confirmed that organizing the exhibition comes within the framework of celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, highlighting their talents, and calling on society to support them in all fields.

Observe security and safety measures

All visitors liked the way the paintings displayed in the square because it took into account the precautionary measures and the possibility of viewing them within safe distances. The lighting contributed to the display of the paintings in a creative manner that left good impression.

Emirati artist Dr. Najat Makki was very happy to attend the gallery and see the beautiful work that people with disabilities presented, whether in the way of drawing or the subjects they choose. She said,


A promising future

“The level we have seen heralds a promising future for the participating artists. There is no doubt that this distinguished artistic renaissance for people with disabilities occurred due to the unlimited support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and Her Highness Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.

Makki praised the city’s work on promoting the principles of social responsibility, and consolidating the values of volunteering, initiative and social innovation. She referred to her willingness to volunteer at the center three days every month as she promised when she visited the Art for All Center (Falaj) last November.

Writer and film critic Dr. Amal El-Gamal affirmed that persons with disabilities are capable of creativity in all fields of life. The society has a responsibility to support them and create an appropriate environment for their inclusion.

Dr. Amal admired for the contents of the paintings, the various drawing skills, and the symbolic title (Without Walls), which not only indicates the spatial condition of the exhibition, but also sends a message to the community to remove the physical and moral barriers.


Willing to volunteer

Artist Dr. Qais Salman Abboud, in a dialogue with artists with disabilities, on the sidelines of the exhibition, has confirmed that in order for the artist to reach his dreams, he must have good education, diligence and work hard

He added,” Persons with disabilities are able to innovate in arts as their ability to innovate in other fields. Society has a responsibility to support and create a suitable environment for them". He stressed that he is always ready to volunteer at the center.

Stars in (Without Walls) gallery

(Moza Abdullah, Manar Abdel Qader, Iman Mustafa, Musab Abdel Rahim, Ammar Dahab, Lama Fahmy, Hafizah Muhammad, and Doaa Samir), the names of the disabled artists who illuminated the sky of (without walls) gallery with their artistic works. Therefore, they deserve praise and respect of those with the desire buy these paintings to decorate their offices or private rooms.

Faris Al-Hadi, Member of the Art for All Center and in charge of Persons with Disabilities Affairs at the University of Sharjah, spoke about the pioneering role of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services in including, advocating and empowering persons with disabilities in all fields, including (arts). He wished continued success and prosperity for Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.

830 persons with disabilities have benefited from the services of (falaj) since its inception until now

Mohamed Bakr, the Supervisor of the Art for All Center (Falaj), confirmed that the center, established on March 2, 2017, currently provides services to 48 talented and creative people with disabilities in the fields of arts, theatrical acting, and music of various nationalities.

Since its establishment and until the present day, more than 830 persons with disabilities have benefited from the services, lectures and workshops of the center. The center has also participated in many artistic competitions and galleries inside and outside the country, praising the fruitful cooperation between Falaj, the Sharjah Art Foundation, and various centers for persons with disabilities in the country.

He concluded by saying that the center is keen to provide its services, including programs and technical workshops, for non-disabled persons in various fields and throughout the year.
