928 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATE IN THE TWENTY-FIRST SESSION OF THE (CLEAN-UP UAE)

On Thursday, December 8, 2022, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) launched the activities of the annual national campaign "Clean-up UAE" at the level of Sharjah in its twenty-first session with the participation of a number of affiliates from SCHS. Emirates Environmental Working Group in the "Khatm" area of Maliha Municipality organized the campaign, in cooperation with SCHS. Volunteers collected 1,532 kg of waste in Maliha.

The campaign, which aims to enable the community to preserve the environment, continues in a distinguished event indicating the continuity of the campaign for twenty-one years, until December 15. It also aims to promote sustainable development and recycling in the UAE society.

About 928 male and female students with and without disabilities participated in the campaign. In addition to a number of governmental and private academic institutions, government agencies, companies, families, and individuals. They all integrated remarkably during the campaign. They provided society with a fine model in preserving the environment. They proved that they are able to take social responsibility.

To mark this occasion, Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi, Founding Member and Chairwoman of the Emirates Environmental Group, said, "The Emirates Environmental Group has proven its leadership in environmental activity, educational programs, and awareness programs in the United Arab Emirates”.

She added, “We are pleased to receive active participation this year from the public and private sectors, academic institutions, students and families. The group aims to mobilize the efforts of all segments of society and involve people from all backgrounds in working together through a common platform to address sustainability issues on a large scale.”

She also said, ““The Emirates Environmental Group is also pleased to have successfully maintained this multi-stakeholder and community-oriented platform over the past 20 years. It effectively displayed the results of collaborative efforts that we can embed on the ground. Over the two decades, this campaign has recorded the participation of 849,228 people from various sectors of society. They succeeded in collecting 1,568,896 kilograms of waste and cleaning up an area of 1,008 square kilometers!”

For her part, Ms. Khadija Ahmed Bamakhramah, Planning and Follow-up Officer, Head of SCHS Environmental Awareness Association, and General Coordinator of the campaign at the level of the Emirate of Sharjah, has confirmed that the environmental message that the campaign directs to all members of society is very important. It aims at raising awareness and informing the public about the real effects of improper management practices of waste.

The campaign also contributes to the practical application and direct participation in the promotion of sustainable development and recycling. This helps in making environmental practices a culture and daily behavior. SCHS emphasizes that preserving the environment is the duty of all, and developing this feeling is very important. It is the responsibility of every individual. This responsibility ensures the provision of a clean, healthy and safe environment on the land of this generous country.

Ms. Khadija directed her sincerest thanks to the Emirates Environment Group for its strategic and meaningful cooperation with SCHS for so many years. This cooperation succeeded in achieving many meaningful initiatives and achievements. She also thanked the municipality of Maliha for cooperating in organizing the campaign in the region, and to all the participating parties.

To conclude, she said, “We work hand in hand to improve various environmental fields, including the "Clean-up UAE" campaign, which SCHS supervises at the level of the Emirate of Sharjah every year”.
