Apr 29, 2019

As part of the activities of 44 Week of the Deaf organized from April 21 to 27 under the theme (Forcing Government Agencies and its Affiliates to Employ Persons with Hearing Impairment), Al Amal School for the Deaf organized a training course for 12 persons with hearing impairment.  They are training in the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey, Government of Sharjah Department of Seaports and Customs, and Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Ms. Afaf al-Haridi, Principal of the School, has confirmed that Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) cares to consolidate the relationships of cooperation with society members and institutions in every area of life including the provision of training for persons with disabilities in order to learn the necessary skills, which suits their capabilities.  This will help in their employment in the future.

She said, “SCHS efforts in assisting persons who are deaf or hard of hearing requires the complete understanding of society members for the concept of social responsibility and the importance of employing them in the fields that suit them.  This training course, which the school is organizing, is an introduction for job placement”.

She has pointed out that the training gives persons with hearing impairment a chance to prove their capability to work and interact we non-disabled colleagues.  Consequently, they would feel more secure and become more sociable and productive.  In addition, the training would contribute to changing the negative conceptions and raising people’s awareness about the things that those people can achieve in every area of life.

Ms. Awatif Ibrahim Zamk, Specialist of Physical Movements Speech, who is supervising trainees from Al Amal School for the Deaf pointed out the diversity of areas that students are training on during this course.

For example, student Sulaiman Abdullah trained in the Archive Department to archive incoming and outgoing messages. Student Abdulhadi Ashour trained in the Department of Land Registration on the follow-up of residential and industrial applications. Walid Al-Abed trained in the General Services Department on classifying and archiving rental applications.  As for student Khaled Haffez Sufaian, he trained in the Management of Corporal Communication on photography and editing.

Mr. Ahmad Al-Atwi, a Press Editor at the Department of Planning and Survey in Sharjah, has confirmed that persons with hearing impairment are capable of integrating into work environment.  Employing them in institutions would contribute to their financial and social independence.

He mentioned that integrating persons with hearing impairment in the market gives them an opportunity to interact with non-disabled persons in the natural work environment.  He called upon institutions and individuals to commit to the concept of social responsibility and assist persons with hearing impairment to reach their legitimate goals.
