Dr. Khaled Al-Mashikhi, Dean of the College of Arts and Applied Sciences at Dhofar University in the Sultanate of Oman, has confirmed that Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) is a leading organization in educating and training persons with disabilities according to the best international practices.

He said, “As part of its efforts to offer services to persons with disabilities, SCHS keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field of assistive technologies and modern scientific methods.  It also gives great importance to raising community members’ awareness of persons with disabilities issues by inviting society members on various occasions to talk about disability and enhances the principles of social responsibility, each according to their capabilities”.

This happened when Dr. Khaled visited SCHS on Sunday, January 19, 2020.  Mrs. Mona Abdel Karim, Director of SCHS, received the guest who wanted to learn about the main services, which SCHS offers to its students.

He explained that Dhofar University is in the process of establishing a center to receive students with disabilities who wish to continue their higher education.  Therefore, it is necessary to create a suitable environment within the university for them.  The university must provide training to administrative and educational cadres to deal with students with disabilities properly.

The visit is the result of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services’ participation in “Accessibility to Knowledge Content for Persons with Disabilities” conference, which the Hashemite University organized from November 13 to 14, 2019, at the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.  Dhofar University delegation participated in the conference as well.  Dr. Khaled learned about the services, which SCHS offers to persons with disabilities after listening to Mrs. Mona Abdel Karim speech at the conference.  Therefore, he wanted to consolidate the relationships of cooperation and directly learn about the services of SCHS and benefit from its experience.

Al-Mashikhi believes that SCHS offers an educational level that matches advanced countries.  He praised the various teaching methods that SCHS provides to its students and through which it strives to develop their skills in every area of life.

He also praised SCHS leadership and its constant efforts to empower, advocate, and include persons with disabilities.  SCHS also makes efforts to raise people’s awareness and reflect the true image of persons with disabilities as well as integrating them into society and improving their quality of life.

He admired students' levels and their educational response, which reflects the academic skills in SCHS. He pointed out that SCHS is special because of its many services and extensive experience in the field of disability. SCHS is a model for efficiency and excellence.

Notably, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services strives to consolidate the relationships of cooperation with local, regional, and international bodies and organizations.  SCHS seeks to enhance the concept of social responsibility, volunteerism, initiation, social innovation, as well as raising awareness of persons with disabilities rights in every area of life.

In addition, SCHS explains the different types of disabilities to organizations and determine its needs because that contributes to a better integration of persons with disabilities into society and education.
