Dubai Islamic Bank Donates 5 million dirhams to Contribute to paying tuition fees for students with disabilities

In accordance with Islamic law, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) students with disabilities who are eligible for zakat funds have been granted a contribution of 5 million dirhams from Dubai Islamic bank's zakat money for the year 2022.

This year, SCHS Zakat campaign aims to collect 11,000,000 dirhams (eleven million dirhams) to pay tuition fees for 479 male and female students with disabilities who are eligible for zakat funds in accordance with Sharia regulations.

     Therefore, the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of Dubai Islamic Bank received the profound gratitude and admiration of Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of SCHS. She has affirmed that the strategic alliance between SCHS and Dubai Islamic Bank serves as an example of how to put the values of social responsibility and volunteerism into practice.


Sheikha Jameela is thrilled with Dubai Islamic Bank's continued belief and trust in SCHS. The bank is confident in the practical services that SCHS offers to people with disabilities. Sheikha Jameela commends the persistence of this assistance since 2011. It is a result of Dubai Islamic Bank's social and religious commitment to educating disabled students in accordance with top worldwide standards.

  She made reference to the accomplishments made by SCHS since its founding 44 years ago. According to its leadership until it achieved a global position, which it concluded in past January by earning accreditation from the International CARF Foundation for the second time in a row. SCHS is the first institution in the United Arab Emirates to offer services to persons with disabilities. This accreditation was prolonged by CARF for three years. Following that, the CARF Foundation also gave SCHS this accreditation in 2020 for a period of three more years. As a result, SCHS will be the first institution in the UAE that provides care for people with disabilities to receive this accreditation.

    The advancement of academic and professional services offered to people with disabilities is aided by obtaining "CARF" accreditation. The CARF Foundation is concerned with giving international certification for the standards of organizations engaged in the global treatment, health, and rehabilitation of people with disabilities.

    According to the head of SCHS, Dubai Islamic Bank's sponsorship shows that it is taking its societal obligations seriously and going forward. All organizations and businesses were urged by Sheikha Jameela to follow the bank's example. She declared, "SCHS is eager to build and enhance partnerships with institutions and organizations on a local, regional, and global scale. It seeks to deliver the greatest services possible, stay up to date on the most recent advancements. This would raise the quality of life for people with disabilities, in collaboration with partners.

    "Education is one of the legitimate expenses for zakat money," she continued. It brings about the family's stability and provides it with a reliable source of income.  This strategy, which is in line with SCHS's principles, objectives, and desire to encourage society's citizens to contribute to the education of people with disabilities and empower them scientifically and cognitively in accordance with the most recent and effective practices, is reflected in the slogan "Your zakat to support our education", added Sheikha Jameela.

She said that since its founding, SCHS has incorporated disability concerns into its methodology, mission, and vision. In order to keep offering its educational services in accordance with the most recent standards and trends, SCHS has been eager to inform the community about them, calling on them to support and provide suitable support in all sectors and to provide zakat contributions.

   Her Excellency SCHS’s General Director said, “Although, the average cost of educating and training one student has reached at the very least 30,000 dirhams during one academic year, the actual cost ranges between 20 thousand dirhams and 80 thousand dirhams, depending on the type of disability and the services the student needs. SCHS always seeks to fulfill its pledge and commitment to provide education, rehabilitation, counseling and family support for all.

  She claimed that during the academic year 2022–2023, 1,647 people with disabilities benefited from the educational, rehabilitation, and training programs provided by SCHS to its pupils of different nationalities and disabilities.

Finally, Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila bint Muhammad Al Qasimi expressed her gratitude to the Dubai Islamic Bank's chairperson and board members once more. She wished them success and growth in the future.
