HUSSEIN ABDUL RAHMAN AL-RAND, “RARE SYNDROMES ASSOCIATED WITH DISABILITY CONFERENCE
With the participation of a group of specialists, academics, doctors, researchers, parents and workers in the field, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) will launch the works of the International Scientific Conference “Rare Syndromes Associated with Disability” on February 27. SCHS is organizing the event under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The conference, which SCHS is holding in partnership with the University of Sharjah and the Ministry of Health and Prevention, will last for two days, in the Student Forum Hall, at the Boys College - University of Sharjah.
His Excellency Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al-Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, expressed the happiness of the Ministry of Health and Prevention for its participation with SCHS and the University of Sharjah in holding the International Scientific Conference on Rare Syndromes Associated with Disability.
His Excellency Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al-Rand praised the importance of the conference, which aims at shedding light on rare syndromes associated with disability and ways to deal with them. It also contributes to raising awareness among relevant medical personnel about the latest developments and medical, practical, educational and rehabilitative practices for people with these rare syndromes.
Dr. Hussein said, “This conference is one of the main pillars that aim to improve the quality of life of individuals with rare syndromes and their families, in which experiences and best practices are exchanged from elite specialists, doctors, researchers, parents and workers in the field. Unifying efforts and finding solutions to some difficulties and issues and coordinating partnerships and services provided by various parties. For the category of rare syndromes associated with disability, it will contribute to the integration of this group with their families into society. It will also contribute to finding effective goals and roles for them to build society, as they are our children and an integral part of our country”.
For her part, Ms. Mona Abdul Karim, Director of SCHS, praised the Arab and foreign participation in the conference. The scientific committee worked during the last period on studying the submitted working papers and approving the appropriate ones for presentation and discussion during the two days of the conference.
She said, "SCHS is contributing more than one working paper in the conference in various educational and rehabilitation specializations. It sheds light on the issues of people with rare syndromes associated with disability, their parents, and society in general”.
She pointed out that the international conference has four themes. The medical theme, the educational/rehabilitation theme, the theme of family counseling, and the theme of art therapy.” The conference will allocate two sessions to the educational theme on the “first day” due to SCHS great interest in this subject and its close connection with its goals.
Al-Yafei referred to an exhibition of assistive technologies accompanying the conference. SCHS Assistive Technologies Center is organizing the exhibit to introduce the latest assistive technologies that promote greater independence in daily life activities, modern technology devices that support education, accessibility and Universal Design.
Finally, the conference aims at raising awareness about the latest developments and medical, practical, educational and rehabilitative practices for people with rare syndromes to provide new knowledge and exchange experiences about educational and rehabilitation services for people with rare syndromes. In addition to improving the quality of life for people with rare syndromes and their families, unifying efforts and coordinating the services provided by different agencies for people with rare syndromes, identify solutions to some issues and difficulties by looking at some successful experiences.
