SCHS HAS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR

Nov 8, 2018

Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) booth in Sharjah International Book Fair offered free physical and occupational therapy consultation to 500 visitors.

The booth displayed the latest (60-second) series, which consists of 20 cards that identify the causes of many motor problems and methods of prevention and treatment. The cards also contain symbols that lead to treatment videos on the Internet.

SCHS constant contribution to Sharjah International Book Fair indicates its care to raise people’s awareness as a leading organization seeking to introduce persons with disabilities issues to the public, consolidate the relationships of cooperation with individuals and organizations, and advance the services offered to persons with disabilities according to the best practices worldwide.

In addition, the booth contains a collection of SCHS publications such as disability and special education books.  For example, SCHS has published more than 40 titles in disability field including the only Arabic version of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th ed. (DSM-IV), which is part of the American Psychiatric Association publications.

The remarkable interaction of Sharjah International Book Fair visitors with SCHS booth gave them a clear idea about the services that SCHS offers to persons with disabilities and enabled them to benefit from free consultation about physical issues.

Since its establishment in 1979, SCHS has been striving to raise people’s awareness of disability issues throughout publishing a collection of specialized books, which corresponds to SCHS mission in raising awareness about disability hazards and the need to reduce its complications.

One of the main indications of SCHS’s care to books and encouraging members of society to read is the organizing of Used Book Fair in 2006.  the main purpose of organizing this fair is not only to raise funds to support the services which SCHS provides to persons with disabilities, but also to enrich youngsters and volunteers knowledge and culture.  The used book fair provides an opportunity to youths to volunteer in collecting, sorting, classifying, pricing, and selling books to visitors.  It is also a valuable chance for the public, especially those with low-income to attain books at low prices and increase their knowledge and culture.

Moreover, SCHS has launched (SCHS Library) initiative in 2014 in order to encourage donating specialized books to readers through different outlets such as libraries, bookstores, and many others.  This encourages people to read about disability issues and special education.

Visitors’ impressions confirmed SCHS outstanding contribution to Sharjah International Book Fair.  They were pleased to interact with consultations and the (60-second) series.  They wished SCHS more advancement and success in the future.
