SCHS SIGNS A MEMORANDUM WITH AL DHAID MUNICIPALITY

On Sunday, January 10, 2021, Ms. Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), and His Excellency Ali Musabbah Al Tunaiji, Director of the Municipality of Dhaid City, signed a memorandum between the SCHS branch in Al Dhaid and the municipality. The memo aims at enhancing cooperation to provide advanced services for students with disabilities and organize community activities and events.

According to the memorandum, the two parties are obligated to cooperate in the field of facilitating the access of persons with disabilities to all their buildings and to support joint media campaigns through social media and official approved channels. In addition to encouraging employees of both sides to volunteer work and community participation in activities and events, and to cooperate in selecting appropriate games for persons with disabilities in public parks.

Al-Tunaiji praised SCHS leadership and its continuous endeavor for 42 years to advocate, include and empower persons with disabilities. SCHS has been working to educate members of society in preparation for PWD integration and improve the quality of their lives. He stressed the municipality’s keenness in coordination with the SCHS to receive persons with disabilities and train them in a range of skills and professions in preparation for their future employment.

He said, “Three persons with disabilities work in the municipality of Dhaid. Because we have strong faith in PWD's abilities to work and produce. We hope the cooperation with the Human Services City will be a strong basis for further integration and services in its parks and facilities”.

In turn, Ms. Mona Abdul Karim Al-Yafei appreciated the keenness of the Al Dhaid municipality to cooperate with SCHS and provide appropriate services to people with disabilities. She stressed that SCHS is working hard to consolidate and develop cooperation with local, Arab and international institutions and agencies.

She said, “Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services is extremely keen on the values of volunteering, initiative and social innovation. It always works to raise people's awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities in all fields, in cooperation with local and international bodies. SCHS introduces PWD and their needs in a way that contributes to their optimal integration”.

Within the framework of the memorandum, SCHS (Dhaid branch) commits to providing awareness programs for the employees of the municipality of Dhaid on ways to deal with people with disabilities through the annual activities and events that it organizes with the provision of screening and early detection services for the municipality’s children and employees after prior coordination. In addition to educating municipality employees about the necessary guidance in the occupational and psychological health of people with disabilities.

According to the memorandum, SCHS provides the necessary advice to the municipality of Al Dhaid. So that the municipality prepares the spatial configuration of the buildings to be suitable, for people with disabilities, in terms of accessibility in cooperation with the team of the SCHS’s Assistive Technology Center, which would provide consultations and would nominate suppliers of suitable games for people with disabilities that the municipality can place in its public parks

As for the municipality of Al Dhaid City, it commits according to the memorandum to cooperate in training and employing students of SCHS branch in Al Dhaid in jobs that suit their abilities.  The municipality must qualify the appropriate workplace for them in its departments and providing the appropriate place and needs to provide the activities and awareness programs about disability that SCHS implements during the year.

The municipality also commits to facilitating access of people with disabilities in its parks. It shall support their social integration by involving SCHS students in the activities and social programs that it organizes and providing a fixed place for displaying and promoting SCHS’s products in the municipality’s building while providing a permanent worker to follow up on agriculture matters at SCHS branch in Al Dhaid.

According to the memorandum, the municipality will also place the indicative signs on the road leading to SCHS building in Dhaid. Clearly, starting from the Dhaid roundabout area to the SCHS branch site in coordination with the concerned authorities. In addition to providing the requirements for the development and maintenance of agricultural areas within the SCHS branch building in Dhaid when needed. As well as maintaining the playgrounds of Municipality with the provision of sponsorship for three events organized by SCHS per year by providing appropriate kind needs.
